BEHIND THE SCENES AT THE ESCAPE KEY
Typically students are buzzing with excitement when they've completed our escape rooms. We usually answer questions as part of the debrief but a more detailed behind the scenes tour can give the students a better understanding of how the games are set up.
The gamesmaster will walk the students through the game explaining how the different puzzles work and demonstrating how some of the electronic systems produce the desired effect.
This add on will typically take around 20 minutes and costs £25 per group
HISTORICAL GUIDED TOUR OF LOCAL AREA
The Escape Key is located in the historic Gallowgate area of Newcastle next to the city's oldest church, St Andrew's. Our Plague and Witch escape games are inspired by the true events from the churchyard where the town's biggest and busiest plague pit lies next to the unmarked graves of those executed for witchcraft. Either before or after playing the escape games, our staff can give you an informative and entertaining tour of the church and grounds. The tour also includes the largest stretch of the city walls (which have existed since the 1200s) and Blackfriars. The tour takes approximately 50 minutes.
(Please note access to the church is restricted to XXX)

What schools are saying about The Escape Key?
At The Escape Key your colleagues will be locked in rooms for an hour. They have to solve around 20 interlinked problems - some verbal, some numerical and some skill based. The puzzle are tough, the games are set in immersive atmospheres and it's against the clock!
You need the same skills to escape from our rooms as you need for today's successful businesses - teamwork, communication, creative thinking and working to deadlines. But they are so hard to teach from a whiteboard. They need to be really experienced, ideally experienced together with work colleagues in a pressured environment.
The Escape Key can also offer bespoke team building at your workplace - whether its indoor, outdoor or both! Get in touch to find out what we can do to suit your company.

FAQs
What is the maximum number of students you can accommodate?
We can accommodate up to 29 students playing simultaneously across four escape games in four teams. Groups larger than 29 would require two or more consecutive sessions.
Can the children play on their own?
We recommend children under 13 years old play alongside at least one adult – usually one of the school’s teachers or classroom assistants. Children 13 years and above can play on their own, although at least one school staff member should stay in the premises.
Do you have a risk assessment?
Yes, we can provide our health and safety risk assessment which details the potential risks and the procedures to minimise them. There is a thorough safety briefing before the game begins.
Are the escape rooms claustrophobic?
All our games are relatively spacious multi room experiences with a minimum of three chambers. The rooms vary in size but if someone felt uncomfortable during the game they can be let out immediately.
Are the students supervised during the game?
During the game, players will be constantly monitored by one of our team members through CCTV cameras and microphones. CCTV is not recorded and is just in place so that players can receive help with what they are working on when its needed.
Are there any discounts for school groups?
Children always receive a discount of 15%. Further discounts may be given when booking multiple games at the same time.
How long does the experience last?
The full experience usually lasts around 80 minutes. There is a 10-15 minute briefing prior to the game where we will run through some helpful escape room tip, health & safety and tell the story of the game. For larger groups please allow up to 90 minutes for the full experience.
What are the difficulty levels?
All our games are quite challenging, but teams will have one of our staff members assigned to their game who will be ready to provide the right amount of help to assist the group and give them the best experience possible.
Are there any educational links?
Yes, the theming for most of our games takes inspiration from true historical events that have taken place within our area in Gallowgate. The games will also test players’ abilities in critical thinking, communication as well as the occasional bit of maths.
What happens after the game?
After the game there will be an opportunity for players to ask any questions about the escape room they played, as well as a chance to have a team photo taken inside of the game room. We can also offer constructive feedback on what did and didn’t work for the team.
