Question #13: Are all the puzzles working?

Updated: May 7

Our Answer: There is nothing more frustrating than a puzzle marked with yellow tape, labelled ‘out of order’. It quite obviously means you are not getting the entire experience. Customer safety must always be the priority and dangerous items made inaccessible… but this is still disappointing when you have paid for the full room.

Why Ask? A good escape room business will have:

  1. A proper maintenance schedule (where safety checks are made on a regular basis).

  2. A system for reporting and repairing damages.

  3. A stock of replacement items and spare parts.

Such a set up will mean puzzles are very rarely out of action.

At The Escape Key, we don’t close our games and very, very rarely have we had to remove a puzzle. The Escape Key is closed every Monday for this very reason - to ensure all props and puzzles are in safe working order. We want to ensure that every team has the best quality experience and more importantly that everything is safe for our customers. Our manager has a list of everything to check for each game - bolts tightened, smoke fluid topped up and fraying cables replaced, just to name a few. We also carry out weekly decorative improvements – touching up paintwork or carving new stones to keep them in tip top condition.
